I am a user of Gimp who noted the display color management issue and who eventually discovered, with a hint from a Gimp developer, that the issue appears to go back to the cairo quartz backend. Unfortunately I don't know how I could test any fix that might be proposed. Pixen is a pixel art editor designed for working with low-resolution raster art, such as those 8-bit sprites found in old-school video games. Versions: I do not know which version of cairo was used to build Gimp 2.8.16. Your administrator (Peter Alves) has been a Mac Tech for almost 40 years - since. So the fix would be to modify the system call so that the surface is definitely in the monitor color space. A notable number of Mac users who have gone to update their machines to OS X Yosemite have discovered something which may seem alarming the progress bar seems to halt during the installation at just minutes remaining, and in some cases, it can sit unmoving with no apparent progress for well over an hour or two. We get an unwanted conversion from sRGB to the display profile, done by the OS. Together with supporting libraries and applications, it forms the X11. The intended behavior of cairo has been derailed by this change. Gimp For Os X 10.9.5 13f1911 Os X El Capitan The XQuartz project is an open-source effort to develop a version of the X.Org X Window System that runs on OS X. From the cairo manual on quartz surfaces: "The surface is created using the Device RGB (or Device Gray, for A8) color space." Up to OS X 10.7, Device RGB was, in effect, the monitor color space. By default, the OS creates the profile from the gamma and primary information in the EDID. This is what appears to be happening under Mac OS X. The intended behavior of cairo is that it passes on the colors unchanged to the display. It appears that this issue goes back to the cairo quartz backend, used by Gimp.Īs I understand it, cairo does not do any color management.

I am opening this ticket because display color management by Gimp under Mac OS X 10.8 or later, is incorrect. Assigned to Vladimir Vukicevic to original bug (#96583) Description
